Platform Ticket Taxes in Cameroon

In the General Tax Code of Cameroon, Section C 99 addresses platform ticket taxes for boarding in bus stations or developed municipal landing stages.

A platform ticket tax is a form of tax imposed on those who are boarding in a bus station or a developed municipal landing stage in Cameroon.

It is a mandatory payment that individuals must make as a contribution towards the maintenance and management of these facilities. The purpose of this tax is to generate revenue that can be used to upkeep and improve the infrastructure of bus stations and landing stages across the country.

This provision outlines the rates, payment procedures, and consequences of non-compliance related to platform ticket taxes. In this article, we will explore the details of this taxation system, its rates, payment procedures, and the implications of non-payment.

Scope of Platform Ticket Taxes

Section C 99(1) of the General Tax Code stipulates that individuals boarding in a bus station or a developed municipal landing stage are required to pay a platform ticket tax. This tax applies to various modes of transportation, including buses and boats, and serves as a contribution to the maintenance and management of these facilities.

Rates and Payment Procedures

The rates for platform ticket taxes are determined by the municipal council and vary depending on the type of boarding location and mode of transportation:

1. Bus Station:

   – Rate: 250 CFAF per loading

2. Landing Stage:

   – Boat without Engine:

  – Rate: 200 CFAF per loading

   – Engine Boat with Less than 10 Seats:

  – Rate: 500 CFAF per loading

   – Engine Boat with More than 10 Seats:

  – Rate: 1,000 CFAF per loading

Owners are required to pay the platform ticket tax directly to the council where the boarding takes place, as stated in Section C 99(2). This ensures that the revenue generated from these taxes is directed towards the maintenance and improvement of the respective facilities.

Non-Compliance Consequences

Section C 99(4) of the General Tax Code highlights the consequences of failing to pay the platform ticket tax. Failure to pay the required tax, whether in a bus station or landing stage, will result in a penalty equal to 100% of the amount of the principal due. It is important to note that this penalty applies regardless of whether the boarding takes place in an approved traveling agency or outside of developed bus stations.

To avoid penalties and ensure compliance, individuals must pay the platform ticket tax as required by the municipal council where the boarding occurs.

The General Tax Code of Cameroon mandates the payment of platform ticket taxes for individuals boarding in bus stations or developed municipal landing stages.

By understanding the rates, payment procedures, and consequences of non-compliance outlined in Section C 99, individuals can fulfill their tax obligations and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of these facilities.

It is crucial to stay informed about the current provisions of the General Tax Code and consult with relevant authorities for any specific inquiries or updates regarding platform ticket taxation in Cameroon.
