Cameroon Hosts 1st Sustainable Energy & Climate Conference in African Municipalities, SECAM 2018

The International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Climate in African Municipalities (SECAM) will be held on May 22 – 25, 2018. The conference, which is the first of its kind will take place at the Ecole National Superieure des Travaux Publics (ENSTP), Yaounde, Cameroon. The theme for this year’s conference will be “Accelerating African Municipality’s Potential towards Sustainable Development Goals”.

This year’s forum will be dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) and 13 (Climate Action) in African municipalities.

SECAM 2018

The topics for SECAM 2018 will include waste management, green transport, clean cooking, heating and indoor air quality, business and entrepreneurship among others. Check out full list of topics.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Nkeng George Elambo, Director of the ENSTP.According to him, this conference which is the first of it’s kind in Africa “should reflect and tackle the concerns of the African municipalities including the built environment industry and create an action plan for change.”

It should be noted that two years ago, world leaders agreed on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. Governments of Africa are still to come up with a coherent plan on how to achieve the goals by 2030.
