Many who used Yahoo Messenger must have received the news of its burial next month. The once very popular instant messaging software will be shutting down on July 17, 2018. Users can still use the app until this date but will have up to six months to download their chat history.
I can’t remember the last time I used it, but it should be quite long. Yahoo Messenger has experienced a ‘ghost-town’ for long.
The reason for shutting down the app is not yet known, and as of now, there is no information about any replacement. If at all there is any replacement, it beats my curiosity why it will be shutdown before any replacement is made public.

However, Yahoo has offered an alternative, Yahoo Squirrel, which is an invite-only group messaging application. Yahoo Squirrel is still in it’s beta stage. Those who intend to join could request for an invite through squirrel.yahoo.com.
As of now, other good alternatives for Yahoo Messenger include WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, Signal and Snapchat.
While we prepare to bury Yahoo Messenger on July 17, it should also be noted that the iconic messenger app’s death has been long overdue. The few users who were using it was not worth the money Oath was spending to keep it up-to-date.
