Open-end investment companies, also known as SICAV (Société d’Investissement à Capital Variable), are a type of investment fund structure commonly found in Europe.
SICAVs are collective investment schemes that pool money from multiple investors to invest in a diversified portfolio of securities, such as stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments.
The key characteristic of SICAVs is their open-ended nature, meaning that they continuously issue and redeem shares based on investor demand.

Here are some important features of Open-end investment companies:
1. Investment Portfolio: Open-end investment companies invest in a wide range of assets, depending on their investment objectives and strategy. These can include equities, fixed-income securities, money market instruments, derivatives, and other financial instruments. The portfolio is managed by professional investment managers employed by the SICAV.
2. Share Issuance and Redemption: SICAVs issue an unlimited number of shares to investors based on the current net asset value (NAV) per share. Investors can buy or sell shares at the NAV, which is calculated daily. This open-ended structure allows investors to enter or exit the fund at any time, providing liquidity.
3. Diversification and Risk Management: SICAVs aim to provide diversification by investing in a variety of assets. This diversification helps spread the investment risk across different securities and reduces the impact of any single investment. Risk management practices, such as setting investment limits, conducting due diligence, and monitoring the portfolio, are implemented to protect investors’ interests.
4. Regulatory Oversight: SICAVs are subject to regulatory oversight by the authorities in the country where they are registered. They must comply with specific regulations regarding fund management, investor protection, disclosure requirements, and reporting. These regulations are designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and adequate safeguards for investors.
Open-end investment companies or SICAVs are exempted from paying company tax in Cameroon.
