How to Obtain the Taxpayer Identification Number in Cameroon

The Taxpayer Identification Number which is also known as the Unique Identification Number (UIN) is a fourteen alphanumeric code used to track taxpayers by the tax administration and the administration of tax laws.

This alphanumeric code is a required information for business invoices and must be presented in any dealings with the tax administration. See the required components for a proper invoice in Cameroon.

This means, all taxpayers must include their unique identification number on all tax-related documents. The taxpayer identification number is issued by the Directorate General of Taxation in Cameroon. You can see for how long you could keep tax-related records in Cameroon.

How to obtain the taxpayer identification number

Before, the taxpayer identification number could only be obtained manually at the tax office. Things have changed today as it can be obtained online for free. However, this can be done only between 7pm and 7am. The system is still very unstable though, and can take you even more than a week to register and obtain one.

Procedure to get taxpayer identification number online

Go to the website of the Directorate General of Taxation, click on Télédéclaration and follow the instructions. To continue, you need to make sure that you have not registered for a UIN before.

If you’ve never had one before, click on “Create Account” and choose “I have not been registered”. Once you are there, you will need to choose whether you are a corporation or an individual.

The online form requires specific information to be filled. This includes:

  • The identification number of the document used (national identity card for individuals who haven’t got any business and business registration number for registered businesses). These documents need to be scanned and uploaded.

  • The location of taxpayer and nearest tax center

  • The email address and telephone number

After filling the form, you will obtain an attestation in A4 format that you can export as PDF, print or store. This document is considered as your taxpayers card. You can get access to it anytime to download, print or save.
